East London expansion with Floppy!

Since the installation of the Floppy Sprinkler system on an area of 8 hectares on his Kingsdale farm in East London, Mickey Meintjies has never looked back. Meintjies decided to install the Floppy Sprinkler Overhead Cable system due to the versitility of the system, its water saving capabilities and the fact that the system is made of material with no scrap value.

Working underneath the suspended Floppy system is a pleasure. Tractor operators cannot not drive over and damage any pipes or hydrants, as the system has no infrastructure on the ground. In the past the occurrence of theft was common but since the installation of the Floppy Sprinkler system, Meintjies have had no instances of theft.

Meintjies cultivates a variety of crops underneath the system ranging from carrots, potatoes, beetroot, cabbage and maize and states that water is applied to a cultivated area as demanded by the crop. Fertilizers are applied easily and accurately through the system limiting wastage through run-off resulting in additional savings.

According to Meintjies since the installation of the Floppy Sprinkler system, they have obtained higher yields on all the crops mentioned above and he has found the Floppy Sprinkler system to be “…the best of all irrigation systems available.”

“To date I can honestly say there are no real negative points to the Floppy Sprinkler system”, says Meintjies, who is currently clearing an additional 30 hectares of bush for expand his Floppy Sprinkler system.

One of the numerous advantages of the system is that it allows for phased installation of the system. Farmers can start by installing as little as one hectare and expand the system to suit their cash flow.

The Floppy Sprinkler is made entirely of plastic and silicone components with no scrap value. The sprinkler has no moving and wearing parts and is maintenance free. The first Floppy Sprinkler system was installed on a farm of Mitchell and Mitchell in Zimbabwe in 1987 and has had no maintenance to date.

An additional bonus to the system is the 5-year guarantee offered on all Floppy Sprinklers and Floppy Sprinkler components. This offer clearly communicates the high quality and durability of the system.

Mickey Meintjies however needs no further incentive, he “will only consider the Floppy in the future.”
